Welcome to the website of the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness (MCNAA). After many years, we now have a NEW look.
To the left, in the navigation bar, you will find a lot of useful links. You can download a membership application to renew or join our growing membership; read about the programs that are available to all and the services we offer to our Native American constituents; view our Position Statements on various subjects; click on a link to download and read our latest newsletter; read information on and see slide shows of the many fundraising and community events we hold during the year; access links to some of our speakers and presenters; view a list of Pow-wows and Special Events; and read other important information.
The organization was founded by Burne Stanley-Peters and her late husband Slow Turtle. It was incorporated as a private 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in April 1989. Its mission is to develop and implement programs that assist needy Native American residents with basic needs, college related expenses, and cultural and spiritual enrichment; as well as to increase public understanding, awareness, and appreciation of Native Americans.
The Leadership Team is comprised of seven members whose heritage is from a number of Native American nations. All Leadership Team members reside in Massachusetts and represent a range of professional backgrounds. They are: Dawn Duncan, Claudia A. Fox Tree, Kim S. Orben, Anthony Silva, Burne Stanley-Peters, and Maria Wilkins. There is currently one vacancy. There is also a seven member Advisory Committee (with one vacancy). Members include: Joyce Rain Anderson, Don Barnaby, Eva Blake, Doug Mitchell, Autaquay Peters, and Len Rose. MCNAA has a general membership of over 2,500. Members live all over the country and Canada, are from all walks of life, and support the philosophy, events, and programs of MCNAA.
The Mass. Center for Native American Awareness is a 501 c (3) not-for-profit organization. We do not receive monies from the State, the Federal government or any regional gaming facility. We rely on funds raised through memberships, fundraising events and year-end donations.
